Umber Ahmad founded Mah-Ze-Dahr Bakery | A Colicchio Discovery in 2013 as a way to transport the curious on a delectable journey of mystery and desire. Started in 2013, the luxury food concept creates memories through combining classic recipes, global spices and an elevated sensory experience. Having spent much of her career on Wall Street, Umber decided to bring together her financial expertise with her passion of food to create a global brand rooted in the staunch belief that what you eat changes who you are as a person. Umber and the bakery have been featured in the New York Times, Food & Wine and O Magazine, among others. Favorite Instagram account to follow:

My dear friend Melanie Dunea (@mylastsupper) is a tremendously talented photographer. You don’t just look at her images, you dive into them and get lost in her stories.

What do you love most about your work?

I love that I get to create something that has the potential to transform another human being. Making food is the most intimate thing you can do for someone, and I get to do that every day.

Your most recent culinary discovery and obsession:

Our brioche doughnuts have me mesmerized. Made from brioche and filled with the silkiest vanilla pastry cream, they are the stuff of dreams. My dreams ☺

Skincare product you can’t live without:

Eve Lom Cleanser, because nothing cleans my skin like that; and Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Primer, which creates that perfect dewy glow I’m always chasing.

Your greatest achievement:

Hopefully being a good daughter and friend, understanding my place in and obligation to the universe.

The beauty product found in your bag at all times:

Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes Eyeliner (its one of the only eyeliners that doesn’t run when I use it in my waterline), Aquaphor and Nars lipstick in Flamenco.

Nail color currently on your hands and feet:

RGB nailcolor in Oxbloodon my feet; nothing on my hands since they’re in dough every day.

Your (real life) hero:

My grandfather. He created the most amazing of lives, one filled with dignity and honor, transformation and purpose. Plus, he taught me to play cards with him when I was three years old. I can now shuffle like a Vegas dealer!

Your current Netflix obsession:

The Honorable Woman

If you weren’t at your current job, you’d be a...

I would likely be working in the healthcare field, doing something to bring medical care to those most in need.
