And more with Heather Wyancko…

Your biggest fashion faux pas, or a regrettable purchase/style phase:

The worst styles I’ve endured have always been unnatural hairstyles. I went through a big hair phase, an attempt at dreadlocks, and worst was the homemade bowl that ended with half my head shaved. I’ve learned to invest in a precision cut and let the geniuses at Bijin Salon work their magic!

What do you love most about your work:

The long hours of shopping, styling, shooting, writing, and editing rarely feel like work: they feel like play! My greatest reward is seeing the twinkle in a woman’s eye when she realizes how fabulous she can look.

One piece of advice you would give your 18-year-old self:

Be kinder to yourself. And don’t smoke!

Midnight snack of choice:

The midnight snack is my favorite meal of the day and I rarely miss it! A dab of triple cream blue cheese with a perfectly ripened peach is my favorite right now.

On Sunday, we’ll find you wearing:

Your go-to power outfit:

I am a moody dresser so what felt powerful yesterday doesn’t always feel powerful today. To keep myself prepared for events and meetings I pull together varying looks when I’m relaxed and inspired and save a few photos with my phone for quick access.

The pair of jeans you will never grow tired of:

I’ve been collecting vintage Levis for as long as I can remember. I wish I would have known about Re/Done a little sooner! They’re masterful reworking of the classic blue jean is BEYOND.

Your whole day was just cancelled and your schedule is wide open, what do you do:

Indulging in thrift store shopping is one of my favorite ways to spend free time. I absolutely love digging for treasure! First Fridays at Urban Mining in Kansas City are especially good for finding Mid-Century masterpieces.

Something you never see going out of style is:

Black pants and white shirts live through every closet audit I’ve ever done. No matter how trendy the cut, they’re easily transformed each season by changing the pairings and adding new accessories.

What is something that recently moved you:

I stumbled into Memphis, TN during a recent road trip and found myself at the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel. Experiencing this incredibly well done exhibit brought me to so many emotions I don’t know if I can count them all. A few of note: horror, outrage, hope, admiration, and unity.
