Social media has certainly amplified the trend, but at its core, it’s about creating a ritual that helps you feel refreshed, confident, and cared for."

Can it be more time consuming? Yes, however, it may actually save you time throughout the week if you take care of certain aspects at once.

There's no real information on who coined the phrase 'everything shower,' however, many people have jumped on the bandwagon with this self-care method and it doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

"The everything shower is a weekly event, not a daily one," says Dr. Yadav. "Skin and hair don't need that level of intervention more than once and over-cleansing or over-exfoliating will leave you worse off than when you started."

Okay, I must admit that I held out on barrel jeans for way longer than I should've. They look like they’ve come straight out of a Western and something about all that volume looked difficult to style. I also thought that the exaggerated silhouette just wouldn’t suit me. Every time I looked at a pair in a store, I ended up putting them back.

What Are Barrel Jeans (And Are They Still in Style)?

Barrel jeans have a leg that's wider through the thigh and knee, then curves back in at the ankle. That rounded shape is what sets them apart from every other denim cut. It's volume with a specific form.

Compare them to wide-leg jeans, which just get wider all the way down with no taper. Or straight-leg jeans, which have no outward curve at all. Mom jeans are more relaxed and boxy overall without that overly-defined curved shape.

Barrel leg jeans lie somewhere in between all of them. They have a more distinctive shape that makes them more eye-catching and draws attention.

As for whether barrel jeans are still in style, the answer is definitely a yes. They've moved from micro-trend to a regular silhouette at this point and you can find them everywhere.

Trust me, they won’t be going out of fashion any time soon.

How Should Barrel Jeans Fit?

The waist should fit snugly. Barrel jeans are a structured silhouette and a close-fitting waist is a big part of it. If there's bagginess at the waist, try sizing down.

Around the hips, thighs, and legs, there should be a lot of room. That's where you get the barrel shape. It should look full and rounded through the legs. And at the ankle, it should taper inward.

For full-length styles, I aim for the hem to hit right at the ankle bone. Any longer and it pools, which creates a different kind of look. Too short and the taper looks like a strange cropped fit and makes shoe pairings feel more awkward.

Slightly cropped or ankle barrel jeans are great though. A cropped jean should end just above the ankle bone, at the narrowest part. These are great for warmer months and I find they pair really easily with flats and sandals.

Rise Considerations

High-rise is the most flattering option for most body types and is probably the most standard rise for barrel jeans. Because it cinches around the waist, it emphasizes the volume of the barrel and enhances the silhouette. This helps make the shape more visible and purposeful rather than it looking like you’re just wearing a pair of oversized jeans.

Mid-rise works, too, especially if you're wearing a tight top and tucking it in. Or if you’re wearing a crop top and want to show off some midriff for a casual look.

Something to note: I’ve found that barrel styles tend to run large. If you’re trying on your first pair and the silhouette looks a bit formless and baggy, try a size down before giving up on the style.
