Hannah and her sister Marian live to eat, especially their mom’s home-cooking. After their parents moved from New York to the West Coast, their steady supply of homemade dumplings came to a screeching halt, leaving the two to search for dumplings just the way mom made them all around New York City. The only problem was that no one cooked like mom, with pasture-raised meat and organic and local vegetables. After 2 years of searching, Hannah and Marian opened Mimi Cheng’s Dumplings in New York City’s East Village. What is your favorite holiday meal?
Hannah
Thanksgiving. Hands-down. My mom’s turkey with gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mashed sweet potatoes! Favorite sides are Brussels sprouts, creamed onions, and a green bean casserole. I love a good classic pumpkin pie and I always bake one from scratch. For a quick slice for a snack, City Bakery has unreal pumpkin pie.

The best part of the holidays is that they seems to bring out the best sides of people. The holidays tend to give people more patience and generosity.

Opening Mimi Cheng’s Dumplings with my sister after talking about it for so many years. It's surreal to see our dream actually manifest.

Organic rose water. I mist it on before putting on lotion or just to refresh myself. It smells so good!

My real life hero is my mom. She’s a saint and a pillar of strength for our family. She is also fearless, speaks over 7 languages, and is an amazing cook (especially of Chinese-Taiwanese and Thai food). She can do anything she puts her mind too and makes it look easy!

My favorite Instagram account to follow is Humans of New York. I bought the book a while ago as a coffee table book and it makes a great gift as well.

My favorite brunch is Locanda Verde. Always start with the ricotta dip and then get a fresh juice, soft scrambled eggs crostini, and take home a blueberry muffin.
