The Interview — Lani Lazzari, Founder & CEO, Simple Sugars
Lani Lazzari is the founder and CEO of Simple Sugars. Simple Sugars manufactures and sells all-natural skincare products especially formulated for sensitive skin. Lani founded Simple Sugars in December of 2005, when she was just 11 years old, in an effort to create natural skincare products that would be safe to use on her ultra-sensitive skin and relieve her eczema. Lani was featured on ABC’s hit show “Shark Tank” in 2013, where she received an investment from billionaire Mark Cuban, and Simple Sugars skyrocketed to a multimillion dollar business. Your greatest achievement:
Growing Simple Sugars to over $1M in sales. There are very few women owned businesses that reach that milestone, and I am extremely proud that I have.

What do you love most about your work?
I love that every day is different and exciting. Sure, every day is also stressful and uncertain and usually filled with at least 5 crises, but I can honestly say that I have never once been bored. I always feel energized by the insanity and ready for whatever new challenge I’m going to face each day.
One piece of advice you would give your 18 year old self:
Don’t worry about not going to college.
Skincare product you can’t live without:
The beauty product found in your bag at all times:
A Burt’s Bees lip balm and a black eyeliner.
Nail color currently on your hands and feet:
I’m wearing our brand new exclusive Simple Sugars nail color (Simple Sugars Pink!) that we’re launching in collaboration with our friends at LVX. It’ll be available on our website in March, so stay tuned!
Where does your credit card get the most use?
My local coffee shop (I desperately need my skim caramel lattes in the morning), closely followed by ModCloth.
Your motto in life:
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
At 9am each day, you are….
Drinking copious amounts of caffeine. I am most definitely not a morning person, and I show up at the office every morning with at least two different caffeinated beverages in hand.
