Game Day Outfits That Make You Look Like a Homerun

The soft pretzels, the foam fingers, the crack of the bat hitting a ball—a baseball game is a distinct setting, worthy of a distinct outfit. I've always been a baseball girl because I love the game's slower pace; it gives me more time to drink beer and indulge in the fun, energetic atmosphere. Plus, I get the chance to curate cute baseball game outfits that combine sporty aesthetics with my personal style.
It took me a little while to figure out what to wear to a baseball game when I wanted to be comfy but stylish. I've experimented with a few styles, so I have plenty of baseball game outfit ideas for you, from jersey dresses for a date to casual denim looks. If you're not sure how to dress for a baseball game, start here.

Veronica BoothTeam Colors and Merch
I'll begin with the obvious: Wear your team colors! When in Rome, dress like the Romans, and in this case, that means sporting baseball jerseys, baseball caps, and any other apparel that's branded with the team logo, name, and colors. The world of sports merchandise is a vast, sometimes surprising one. You'd be astonished by the kind of branded gear you can get, from skorts and leggings to jeans and bras. Seriously, nothing is off limits, so if you think to yourself, "I wonder if I can get a Red Sox lobster bib or Athletics knee high socks," it's very likely you can.
I don't think a lobster bib is the most stylish choice, but the point is that you don't need to feel boxed into T-shirts and hoodies. The options are plentiful. What I like to do is find comfortable, familiar silhouettes with elevated designs. For example, instead of the team cap you see on every other person, get an all-denim one with the team logo. It brings a little flair to the classic look, so your outfit is baseball-centric while being intentional. My cheat code for this is to look for "vintage" merchandise. It doesn't have to actually be vintage, but pullovers or tees with a faded appearance, old-school logos ,or retro fonts are more interesting and fashionable.
As far as styling, you can keep it simple but still put a distinct spin on the merchandise. I love to buy oversized (like XXL) jerseys and wear them as dresses. You can cut plain team tees into sexy crop tops with an asymmetrical neckline. Leggings or jeans are a safe choice, but you can also pair your merch with more elevated looks, like a tennis skirt or bodycon dress.
Savings tip: Fanatics has official merch for pretty much every style, including actual vintage pieces. To get the best deals though, look for Fanatics coupons or check for sales before you shop.
Effortless and Neutral
Maybe you've never actually cared about baseball in your life, or maybe you're at a game where your favorite team isn't playing. In these cases, it's okay to dress like Switzerland. You can wear neutral colors, like black, white, browns, and greys, so you're not showing any loyalty, but you also don't look ridiculously out of place. If you show up to a Mariners (blue/teal) vs. Athletics (green/yellow) game in bright red, you'll stick out like a sore thumb. My advice is to pick a team color or go with the neutrals.
This is the right move if you have no merch and no team colors. But it doesn't mean your outfit has to be bland. In these situations, I love to wear items like pleated tennis skirts, edgy cargo pants, fun rompers, and laidback matching sets. However, nothing can compare to the too-cool-to-care vibe of Levi’s jeans and a white tee. This doesn't have to be boring either, because you can style it with layered jewelry and luxe accessories. The most important thing is to make sure the fit is perfect. The jeans should look like they were made for you, and the tee should be more tailored.
You can also lean into a sportier and more laidback look, wearing leggings or bike shorts with oversized tees or tiny cropped tops. Baseball game outfits can be as relaxed as you want, and they can also be more sophisticated than you might think.
Sporty Athleisure Looks
If you still want to skip the official (or unofficial) merch but embrace the sporty atmosphere, you can use athletic-inspired elements to get the look you're going for. This includes the leggings, bike shorts, tennis skirts, and similar styles mentioned, but you can probably skip the cargo pants and jeans. Ideally, you want to look like you're ready to step on the field at any moment and chase down a pop-up, even if you're not repping a specific team name or logo. Stick with the fabrics associated with athletic wear, like spandex and nylon. And focus on baseball-inspired detailing, like raglan sleeves, colorblocking, and pinstripes.
You can find unbranded jerseys, jersey dresses, striped leggings, and cute track shorts that make you look like you're an athlete who's taking the day off. Put together a baseball jersey and skirt outfit with an unbranded or neutral-colored top. Or wear leggings with a baseball-style, ¾-length sleeve shirt.
Here, the footwear choice is a no-brainer; you need sneakers. Any sneakers can work for a baseball game outfit, from suede adidas to the New Balance dad shoes to classic Converse Chuck Taylors. I love to pair my sneakers with chunky crew socks for a trendy look, but for a sleeker style, you can wear no-show socks.
Finally, finish it all off with a sporty bag, like a crossbody or a fanny pack. A backpack can also fit the vibe, but if it's medium-large, I recommend finding a clear one so security won't hassle you. Certain stadiums don't even allow non-clear bags these days.
Stadium Chic
If you can't help but be a high-end fashionista wherever you go, go for the stadium chic aesthetic. This is a subversion of the traditional baseball attire for women, but hey, that's what makes it so fun and striking. These stadium outfit ideas feature unexpected and unorthodox items, like animal print garments, cozy sweaters and cardigans, structured blazers, heavy boots, flirty dresses, corset tops, and even heels.
Wear cow print pants with a plain white tee, brown boots, and big hoop earrings, or rock a little black dress with a baguette purse and platform sandals. I also love the look of capri jeans with classic black loafers and a chunky knit sweater. Does it scream "I'm going to a baseball game"? No, but that's okay. You'll look polished while still being casual enough for the setting.
I mentioned heels, and wearing them to a baseball game is a super specific vibe. In full transparency, it's not my vibe, but I'm not particularly talented in heels. For those of you who could run an obstacle course in stilettos, this idea has you written all over it. But I still want to recommend opting for a blockier heel, as baseball stadiums can have grates and slippery surfaces you have to navigate.
In the world of baseball, there are day games, usually around 1 pm, and there are night games, usually around 6:30 pm. Your game time matters. You can lean into the bolder, moodier looks for the night games, like mini skirts and thigh-high boots. For the day games, it's best to keep it more easygoing so you don't look wildly out of place.
Be Ready for Rain or Shine
Unlike basketball and hockey, these games are outside. Your baseball game attire needs to account for the elements. Because the season starts in March and ends in September, some games can be cold and rainy, while others are all sunshine and warmth. Check the weather before you plan your baseball game outfit, and bring the right accessories.
For summer baseball game outfits, bring sunglasses and wear sunscreen, and maybe a hat too for extra shade. On the other hand, colder days call for layers. As someone who's been to many rainy-day games, don't underestimate how awful it is to be freezing and wet for a full nine innings. If the forecast even hints at rain, bring a waterproof layer and wear waterproof shoes.
Elevate With Accessories
Aside from your practical accessories, I encourage you to accessorize with abandon. This is what will set your game day outfits apart from the crowd. Play around with layering jewelry, like pairing a dainty pearl choker with a longer lariat necklace, or you can layer two plain gold chains of slightly different lengths. Stack those rings and stack those stud earrings. Or try wearing statement earrings. A pair of tasteful feather earrings can work well with a stadium chic look, but I also adore the vibe of dramatic hoops or chunky drop earrings.
For neutral or merch-heavy baseball game outfits, a couple of my favorite accessories are charm bracelets and watches. A chunky metal watch has a luxe yet edgy look, while a dainty, feminine one makes any outfit a bit more elegant. But charm bracelets will always hold a special place in my heart. I'll give you bonus points if your charm bracelet features sporty details, like a baseball charm or a little foam finger charm. Heck, you can even put charms right on your shoes.
Aside from jewelry, bags are another wonderful way to kick your look up a notch. A tweed mini purse or designer crossbody can take your outfit from casual to curated in a heartbeat. If wearing a cheetah print coat and rhinestone-studded heels is a bit too much for you, then go with one of the more laidback aesthetics, but amp it up with a high-end accessory. A neutral athleisure outfit suddenly becomes show-stopping when you add diamond hoops and a Dior bag.
Hair Dos (And Don'ts)
A natural, hair-down look is an easy choice, but if you want a more intentional hairstyle, I'm always a fan of messy braids and sporty ponytails. Keep the weather in mind for this. A windy day in the nosebleed seats could leave your hair looking wild, so some sort of slicked-back updo or protective hairstyle will mitigate that. Similarly, sitting in a sunny section on a 90ºF+ day can leave you sweaty with hair plastered to your neck.
I love to do a loose braid with a baseball cap or pigtails with a bucket hat for a cutesy look. But I'm also partial to using a bandana as a headband. Whatever hairstyle you leave the house with, I recommend bringing a scrunchie or hair tie with you, just in case.
Step Up to the Plate in Style
I'm always in awe when I see a girl in stilettos or leather pants at a baseball game. She looks fabulous, with a hot dog and foamy beer in hand. However, I tend to lean toward the merch-heavy and sporty chic outfits. I want to be comfortable enough to jump up and down during the thrilling plays and capable of climbing the seven flights of stairs to my cheap seats. So easy-to-wear skirts and elevated merch are where I thrive.
No aesthetic is better than another; I just want you to roll with the one that feels most natural to you. Don't force a baseball look that you feel self-conscious in, or one that you feel drab in. You shouldn't feel like you're wearing a costume, so do you, but with a little stadium flair.
