Top 10 Korean Sunscreens That Make SPF the Best Step in Your Routine
No White Cast. No Greasiness. Just the 10 Best Korean Sunscreens, Ranked and Tested

soko glam
Sunscreen is the most essential part of your skincare routine, yet it rarely gets the love or hype that skincare darlings like serums, treatments, and masks do. It's a non-negotiable, but between greasy formulations, not-so-subtle white casts, and the way it doesn't always play nice with your makeup, you might be tempted to pass on it. That is, until you try Korean sunscreen. These formulas deliver advanced sun protection with a barely-there feel and layer like a dream under makeup. Many are even loaded with the kind of bonus skincare ingredients you'd expect from a serum or treatment, which is the icing on the cake.
It's no wonder Korean sunscreens have taken over skincare TikTok, right alongside the rest of K-beauty's best. And if you've been scrolling through them on your FYP like I have, wondering which ones are actually worth trying, you're in the right place. We put the Rank & Style algorithm to work rounding up the best Korean sunscreens for your face (and body, too) across every skin type, formula, and finish, so you can stop guessing and just glow.

Looking for a sunscreen with Korean skincare-level ingredients that has been newly formulated to meet the FDA’s stringent sunscreen requirements? ROUND LAB’s Birch Juice SPF combines skin-loving natural ingredients along with tried and true filters that boost your skin’s barrier and calm sensitive skin all while protecting you from harmful UVA, UVB, and blue light. The hero ingredient is birch tree sap sourced from Korea’s silver birch trees, which is rich in NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor) and is basically a blend of natural, moisturizing ingredients including hyaluronic acid. It also contains glyceryl glucoside (from desert plants), panthenol, and purslane extract; all designed to lock in moisture and soothe reactive skin.
While the SPF rating of 45 is slightly lower than many others on this list, the real-world difference between SPF 45 and 50 is so small it’s hardly worth noting. According to Dr. Eleonora Fedonenko, Doctor of Medicine, Your Laser Skin Care, “I still have to take back the word SPF 50 when I say it in nearly every patient consultation. SPF 30 blocks approximately 97% of the UVB rays, and SPF 50 blocks approximately 98%.” It was named Korea’s best sunscreen for 2026, and is consistently a top contender in Korean sunscreen reviews across the board. You really can’t go wrong with this one.

“The texture feels so nice and wearable, and I don't get that heavy feeling when I have makeup on over it. It leaves zero white cast and gives my skin a balanced glow. My mother and grandmother use it too, and even though we all have different skin types, it works on all of us.” —Anastasia, Team Lead

Why We Love It
This is the sunscreen you go for when you want a simple, one-and-done sun protection routine. Not only does this sunscreen tick all the boxes for a great Korean face sunscreen (think no white cast and layers both under and over makeup without pilling), but it’s also a Korean body sunscreen, too. If typical body sunscreen feels too heavy for you or triggers breakouts, this could be the one. It’s lightweight, and includes green tea and cica to hydrate and soothe skin, leaving you with a healthy glow.
One thing to keep in mind, the standard size tube (50mL) will run out fast if this is your daily body sunscreen. It’s definitely worth going with the value size (100mL), you get twice as much product and it will save you a few bucks in the long run.

Why We Love It
This liquid sunscreen is a must-have for makeup lovers. Unlike many sunscreens that sit on top of your skin and cause makeup to pill and ball-up, this Dr.Jart + formula quickly absorbs to create the perfect canvas for applying your favorite products. The finish is more glass skin than matte, but for glowing makeup looks you can skip your regular primer entirely. The Every Sun Day™ line also includes a mattifying stick version, which may be a better choice if you’re looking for a Korean sunscreen for oily skin.
At first glance, this may seem like one of the pricier sunscreens on the list, but keep in mind that it comes in a 100mL bottle, which is nearly twice the amount of product as many others. The liquid formula may be another tempting way to save since it spreads on thinly, but don’t fall into that trap. Apply liberally (a dime size dollop should do for your face) and allow it to fully absorb for full protection and a radiant finish.

Hate reapplying your sunscreen? This feather-light stick takes all the hassle out of midday touch-ups. Its smoothing bar shape is contoured to glide over the angles of your face (unlike those deodorant shaped sticks), giving you an even application every time. It works especially well for reapplying over your makeup without any smudging that can sometimes happen when you apply product with your fingers.
Skin-loving ingredients like ectoin, allantoin, and sunflower seed oil strengthen your skin's barrier and reduce inflammation, but the real hero for me is the addition of silica which helps control oil, making this a combination and oily skin-friendly pick.
This one is also water-resistant, so if your plans include the pool or the beach, you’re covered for a full 80 minutes.

Feedback from our tester, Allison Wall, Senior Deals Editor
“I've tried at least ten sunsticks, and this one is my favorite by far. It glides on without feeling waxy or sticky, and the U-shape makes it so easy to apply along my face and neck. My skin feels velvety soft after, never heavy or greasy, and it's hydrating too. No stinging in my eyes, and the scent is barely there. I love wearing it under makeup because it doesn't pill at all, and my base actually goes on really smoothly over it. The only small thing is that reapplying over makeup moves my base a little, but I think that's just how sunsticks are.” —Allison Wall, Senior Deals Editor

Why We Love It
This is the formulated-for-the-US version of their iconic, TikTok-viral Relief Sunscreen, same glass-skin philosophy but with FDA-approved sun filters. The Day Dew sunscreen is everything you would expect it to be: a skincare packed formula that feels more like your favorite moisturizer than a traditional sunscreen. It melts into your skin, and the result is that signature dewy, hydrated glow that K-beauty skincare is known for.
The formula is packed with skin-loving actives alongside its UV filters: hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and panthenol for adding serious hydration and skin barrier support. Rice extract, one of the brand's hallmark Hanbang ingredients, calms, hydrates, and refines. It layers well with makeup, but the glowy finish looks so good on its own you might want to skip it.

Half the appeal of Korean sunscreen is the next-level hydration, but if your skin tends to lean toward the oily side or is prone to breakouts, a superlight essence-type sunscreen like NEOGEN will give you the sun protection you need without things feeling too heavy. The formula is slightly thinner than a lotion, and it absorbs into your skin rather than sitting on top, which is what gives it that lighter-than-air feel.
The ingredient list is chock full of natural plant-based extracts, designed to soothe and lightly moisturize your skin, as well as regulate your skin’s sebum production, resulting in less oily buildup and clearer skin overall.

If you’re familiar with TIRTIR’s cushion foundation, you know that the brand is the sensory-appeal expert. So, of course the Hydro Shield sunscreen is going to be all about how your skin feels, think fresh, hydrated, and bouncy. The triple hyaluronic acid blend pulls in intense hydration, and the phyto-collagen (a standout ingredient from others on the list) helps skin maintain its elasticity. Aloe calms and refreshes, without leaving behind any residue or sticky feeling.
Many user reviews note that it's so light they forget they even wear it, which speaks volumes about its absorption—it hydrates from within rather than sitting on top of your skin. The finish looks like your natural skin, nothing overly glossy or matte, the perfect blank slate for wearing as is or layering under makeup.

Sunscreen that’s also an essence? Count me in. Then I Met You’s Light Sunscreen has all the benefits and skin-nourishing ingredients of an essence while protecting your skin with broad spectrum SPF 50. The texture is light and creamy, and once it's applied, it soaks in quickly leaving you with plumper looking, luminous skin and no filmy feel. If your skin tends to be on the oily side, you can skip moisturizer all together with this one.
The ingredient list is another reason to love this sunscreen. The Light Sunscreen includes Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate (GFF), which is made from fermented sake. What it means for your skin is smaller pores, fewer blackheads, less sebum (your skin’s natural waxy buildup), and ultimately fewer breakouts. If traditional sunscreen or heavy products trigger your skin or leaves you with unexpected bumps, this is a game changer.

Purito’s known for its minimal, clean formulations, and the Sun Day Adventure Sunscreen does just that. No oils, no fragrance, just broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection and a few star ingredients like panthenol and java waterdropwort extract to calm, hydrate, and soothe. If you have sensitive skin and want an alternative to ROUND LAB, this clean Korean sunscreen is a good fit.The texture is creamy and feels serum-like when applied, with reviewers noting that it fully soaks into skin after a minute or two.
Because there’s no added fragrance, you may notice a slight “sunscreen” scent initially, but once absorbed you may forget you’re even wearing it—no scent, no heavy feeling, and natural looking skin. It’s a great option for daily wear, since it’s lightweight and the stripped-down ingredient list won’t cause makeup to pill, but it’s not the best pick for pool days as it’s not water-resistant.

Missha takes a totally different approach to Korean sunscreen, combining mineral filters (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) with chemical actives for protection that solves the shortcomings of both filters. Chemical filters can degrade in the sun, meaning more frequent reapplication. Zinc oxide on the other hand is much more stable, but can feel heavy and has a reputation for giving skin a white cast. Missha’s formulation feels lighter-than-air, leaves almost no white cast, and has a truly matte finish.
Vitamin C and niacinamide are the standout skincare ingredients in this one, think vitamin C for brightening and evening skin tone, and niacinamide for healthy hydration. This lightweight sunscreen also helps to control sebum production, so it’s perfect for anyone with combination or oily skin who wants to minimize shine. It’s important to know that while the white cast is minimal, it may be more noticeable on darker skin tones.

How We Found the Best Korean Sunscreens To Try
When it comes to finding the best of the best products, our team uses the Rank & Style multi-factor algorithm. It finds and evaluates products across four criteria (user reviews, bestseller status, industry recognition, and social buzz); products need to perform well for each to earn a top spot on the list. After each of these Korean sunscreen products has been chosen, scored, and ranked, our beauty editors review the data and do a deep dive to personally vet each product—making sure no over-hyped product has slipped in.
Our editorial team also has strong opinions when it comes to sunscreen, so naturally when a few of their favorites made the list, they needed to share their thoughts! These are the products they use IRL and love, with their personal feedback on how they feel, wear, and work with different skin concerns. It doesn’t change the product’s score, but sometimes knowing these little details makes all the difference.
What Makes Korean Sunscreen Different (And Why Derms Can't Stop Recommending It)
The short answer? Korean sunscreens tend to feel better, wear better, and protect better than what most of us grew up using. The textures are lighter, the finishes are more elegant, and the UVA protection often goes well beyond what's standard in the U.S. That's why they've earned a cult following, and why dermatologists keep recommending them.
So why the difference? It really comes down to regulation. The FDA hasn't approved a new sunscreen filter in almost a decade, which means U.S. brands have been working with the same limited toolkit for years. South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, on the other hand, classifies sunscreen as a functional cosmetic, giving Korean brands more flexibility to incorporate newer, more advanced UV filters like Tinosorb and Uvinul.
That bigger toolkit is exactly why Korean formulas feel so different on the skin. As Dr. Michael Lipp, DO, FAAD, Dermatologist at SKINAESTHETICA, explains, "Korean formulators have a much longer list of chemical filters to work from and can build broad spectrum protection from more elegant combinations that achieve a lighter, more cosmetically refined finish." Translation: more filters to mix and match means brands can engineer sunscreens that protect just as well (often better) while feeling like nothing on your face.
Of course, if you've spent any time on skincare TikTok, you've probably seen the debate around filters like Tinosorb and Uvinul not being FDA-approved in the U.S. The lack of approval here doesn't mean they're unsafe. They're widely used and well-studied in other countries, but it's understandably given some people pause. The good news is that every sunscreen on this list uses FDA-approved filters, so you get all that Korean sunscreen elegance without the question marks.
The Korean PA System for Sunscreens, Explained
The label on Korean sunscreen may look a bit different from Western sunscreen brands as well. While US brands use terms like “broad spectrum” to show UVA and UVB protection, and the SPF scale we’re all familiar with, true Korean versions use the PA system (Protection Grade of UVA). This system measures UVA penetration and how it truly affects your skin using the Persistent Pigment Darkening (PPD) scale. It can get pretty technical, but these are the designations to know:
- PA + (50–75% protection against UVA rays)
- PA ++ (75–88% protection against UVA rays)
- PA +++ (88– 94% protection against UVA rays)
- PA ++++ (94% or higher protection against UVA rays)
Dr. Cameron Rokhsar MD, FAAD, Founder and Medical Director of New York Cosmetic Skin & Laser Surgery Center puts it plainly: " American SPF measures only UVB, whereas PA++++ tells you the UVA filter is doing real work, not just clearing the regulatory minimum. Beyond the filters, K-beauty treats texture as seriously as protection. The goal isn't just blocking UV rays, it's creating a formula you'll want to reapply.”
How to Layer Korean Sunscreen Into Your Skincare Routine
Korean sunscreen should be the last step of your daily morning skincare routine, before you apply your makeup.
Dhruvesh Raj, Co-Founder of Arise Cosmetic, is precise about timing: "Apply sunscreen as the very last step of your skincare routine, after your moisturizer has fully absorbed. Wait about 10 to 15 minutes before going outside to allow the protective layer to properly set on your skin."
If your skin is on the glowy side already, you can even try skipping your moisturizer, taking that step out of the routine entirely.
The amount of sunscreen is key for keeping your skin safe, and while you should always check the product instructions, a good general rule of thumb is to use a nickel-sized puddle or to follow the two-finger rule—squeeze a line of product down your middle and index finger, all the way from palm to tip. It may seem like a lot, but the beauty of Korean sunscreen is that it soaks in instead of sitting on top. Wait a few minutes for the sunscreen to absorb and then you're ready for makeup!
Reapply at least every two hours if in direct sunlight, or sooner if any swimming or sweating is involved. Even indoors, don’t underestimate how much sunlight passes through windows. If your office has a window, you could be getting more UVA exposure than you think.
Where To Buy Korean Sunscreen
The current appeal of K-beauty has definitely made it easier to find Korean sunscreen in the US. Most major beauty retailers carry some or all of the sunscreens in our list, so you won’t have to search too hard to find the best sunscreen brands.
- Ulta Beauty—Always keep an eye out for Ulta’s promotions, their sales schedule makes this a great place to find deals on K-beauty favorites like NEOGEN, ROUND LAb, and Missha to name a few.
- Sephora—You can find Beauty of Joseon, innisfree, and Then I Met You all at Sephora. Need another reason? Sephora usually offers a few free samples with online orders, and in-store shoppers can usually request a sample of any product as well, which is a great way to try out a new product before committing.
- Nordstrom—If sunscreen isn’t the only item you’re after, department stores like Nordstrom make it easy to get everything all in one place. Their selection leans toward premium and luxury Korean brands, think TIRTIR, ROUND LAB, and Sulwhasoo.
- iHerb—This may not be the first shop that comes to mind, but for clean beauty and health brands like Abib and Missha, iHerb knows their stuff. They guarantee freshness and authenticity, and expiration dates are always displayed, so no worrying about getting a sunscreen that's been on the shelf too long.
- Soko Glam—If you’re shopping exclusively for K-beauty, you need to know about Soko Glam. They’re one of the longest running K-beauty curators in the US, and their search filters (by skin type, finish, formula…) let you narrow your search, fast.
- Amazon—Fast shipping, easy reordering, who doesn’t love shopping Amazon? You can find most of the brands on our list here, just stick to “fulfilled by Amazon” or authorized retailers so you know you’re getting an authentic product.
- Direct Brand Websites—Love a particular brand? Shopping the direct brand website is the best way to have access to their full skincare lines and newest formulas.
Your Skin Called. It Wants a Korean Sunscreen
With so many options for finish, formula, and skin type, there’s something on this list of the best Korean sunscreens for everyone. Before you shop, think about what you really want out of your sun protection. Are skin-loving ingredients a must-have? Maybe concerns like sensitive skin are your top priority? Convenience needs to be factored in too, because if reapplying a cream or lotion sunscreen for your face feels like a chore, maybe a stick formula is for you. The important thing is to find a sunscreen that you will use consistently, but it’s definitely a bonus if it doubles as skincare, too.
